Yoga at Home

Admittedly, practicing yoga at home is not the same as attending a yoga class at your yoga studio. It does not provide the serenity and tranquillity that the atmosphere of a yoga studio does. However, how many times have one not sat in a yoga class and wondered why you do not come here more often? The most common answer is Time! It takes time to get back and forth to the yoga studio and to spend 60 or 90 minutes in a class. All together at least a couple of hours. Even though it would be wonderful to get to do this every day, it is not very reasonable or practical.

However, there is an option. A simple yoga practice can quite easily be done in the convenience of a home. Actually, yoga can be done practically anywhere. Even in an office or a park. A noisy environment gives you gives you the opportunity to practice the ability to focus on self. This as oppose to letting the surrounding environment decide your being.

There are advantages and disadvantages with practicing at home. When practicing at home there can be the issue of letting go in the knowledge that someone else (the yoga instructor) is leading you through the practice. On the other hand when you practice yoga at home, you get to pick the poses your body needs right exactly that day. You can spend as much or as little time in each pose depending on how you feel (as oppose to moving along with the rest of the class). Best of all is that the class starts and finish at the time that fits your schedule! Even if only for a few minutes a day, yoga is very beneficial. It might even just be a short meditation. In your time, in your space.

In spite of all the benefits of practicing yoga at home, it is necessary to get a yoga studio every now and then. As much for the serenity of being there and getting inspired, as for the important and necessary adjustments. The smallest needed adjustment can be difficult to see on self. Even worse is that when repeated daily, a small awkward move will most likely cause injury over time.

A daily practice of yoga is both mentally and physically beneficial. The ability and discipline to do yoga at home is more or less equivalent to getting to practice every day.
